Bringing Cellular Coverage to a 22-Story Class A Office Tower
When tenants complained about dropped calls and dead zones, the building owner turned to RFIP for a full in-building DAS solution.
February 10, 2026The Challenge
A 22-story Class A office tower in downtown Atlanta was losing tenants—and prospective ones—over a single issue: cellular coverage. The building's steel-and-glass construction blocked carrier signals on most floors, leaving tenants relying on Wi-Fi calling and frustrated by dropped connections.
The building owner needed a carrier-grade in-building solution that would satisfy all major carriers and meet local ERRCS (Emergency Responder Radio Communication System) code requirements.
Our Approach
RFIP was brought in to design, engineer, and deploy a full Distributed Antenna System (DAS) solution.
**1. RF Assessment & Carrier Coordination** We conducted floor-by-floor signal analysis and coordinated directly with AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile to secure carrier approvals and signal source agreements.
**2. Neutral-Host DAS Design** We designed a neutral-host system using CommScope infrastructure that supports all three major carriers simultaneously, future-proofed for 5G integration.
**3. ERRCS Integration** The same riser infrastructure supports a dedicated ERRCS system for first-responder communications, bringing the building into full code compliance—a requirement the previous system had failed to meet.
The Results
- Full five-bar coverage on all 22 floors for AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile
- ERRCS code compliance achieved and certified by the local fire marshal
- Tenant satisfaction scores increased 34% in the first quarterly survey post-installation
- Two new lease signings attributed directly to improved in-building connectivity
- System designed for 5G-ready expansion without riser modifications
